Hello friends,

So mobilize your marketing!!

Most business owner I talk to are not sure how all this new web media stuff works?? If all this new media stuff does work what should I be doing? Social media, video media, or mobile Media. They all work and they all work well. But let’s talk about one mobile media marketing! How can you use it to grow your bottom line?

So should you text all your family and friends? You can, but do you think they are looking for what you are selling. Probably not! Ok so 2 very cool and quick stats:

92% of all text msg are read with in 2 hrs
Almost 98% of all voice mails are listen to

Very cool for mobile marketing. But now your thinking so how does that help my business? It really doesn’t unless your targeting the right people(and know what your doing).

So let target together and see if we can figure out a plan to use this new mobile marketing. Ok so what I would do first is see who my target is and how am I reaching them now… So let’s use an example lets say I am selling a cool grill that looks like a big disc. My target Is cooks or people that like to grill out side . Now I have a store and I go to shows. So I hand out cool looking flyers with my number and web site just like every other grill guy at the show. Stop old way!

Let’s do this, a cool sign at the booth where my cool grill is and I have some cool business card with a msg that says something like this

“STOP RIGHT NOW! TEXT YOUR NAME AND EMAIL TO XXX XXX XXXX FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN THIS COOL GRILL”

Short sweet and to the point. (and you’re telling them to take action)! Now you set up an auto text service and an auto call back service and auto email service. Then Send them a text, email, and voice mail that says something like this. “hi thanks for entering your stuff for a chance to win”.

The winner will be drawn xx/xx/xx you will be notified who the winner is good luck. Thanks for entering go here to check out this cool grill. Now your building a list that you can market to they wanted your info about your product or service. Give them good tips about your product or service over time and they will look to you as the trusted advisor and the authority they will start to trust you. Then over time they will buy your stuff.

Mobilize your media!!!

So do you know how to do e-mail marketing the right way without SPAMMING??

I ask this question because I have had a rash of SPAM hit my in box these past few weeks. I’m not talking about the overseas SPAM (cheap Rolex, cheap drugs), I’m talking the local SPAM. There is a company in our local area selling an email marketing service dirt cheap, and reusing a list that they got from a local chamber. Remember, if I did not ask for the information or opt-in to a list, then that is SPAM.

There are some very basic rules you must keep in mind when doing e-mail marketing.
1) Don’t SPAM if someone did not ask for your info don’t send it to them.
2) Use a content management system that requires a double opt-in method for your safety.
3) If your email address is on the outgoing email you’re responsible for that e-mail.
4) Build your list the right way Do NOT take shot cuts and use these dirt cheap systems people are selling it hurts your business in the long run.
5) If you do join a chamber, you can e-mail each member directly from your personal e-mail, and introduce yourself–say who you are, what you do, and ask if it would be okay to send your business info to them.

Just remember Email marketing works and when done right with the right system it is the least expensive way to market. There is no short cut way do your Email marketing right the 1st time. Email Marketing in about building a list of follower that trust you and the content you are putting out. So remember good content out great clients in…

I hope this helps. Have a great day

Why is website security so important these days? Why should you hire a professional to do your website? Well, to answer the first question, we’ve really got to appreciate the amount of data that changes hands via the internet. We’re all weary of credit card numbers, social security numbers, and the like every time we log on. Anything involving a transaction is a potential concern for a small business.

But what about the more mundane? Let’s say you have an e-mail list of all your clients–potential or otherwise–and someone hacks into your site. Now, they have a list of all your clients too. They’ll have access to everything you have access to–their e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc. This could be a nightmare for you and your business. And that’s why security is so important to a website these days: Because the amount of data available online is increasing. If you cannot offer your clients security, they will probably think twice about doing business with you. If they don’t trust your site, they might not trust you and your business as a whole.

And I write this out of experience. I know people, who have, in fact, logged onto a website to purchase a product or service, noticed the vulnerabilities in the security, and decided not to purchase said product or service. This is a general example. It may never happen to you. I could never say that it is a fact that you will lose business, but it is a fact that, generally speaking, businesses with inadequate security on their sites will lose potential customers.

Plus, if some hacker gets into your websites innards and begins changing things, or stealing information, it will create a huge headache. You will know you’ll need to fix the situation, but will you know how?

That’s why it is always a good idea to hire professionals. In this day and age, webspeak is not as uncommon as it once was. A lot of people have marginal backgrounds in HTML, CSS, or even Javascript. Facebook makes instant coders out of all of us. Programs like Microsoft Frontpage bring the do-it-yourself-website to the table. Because of this, a lot of people can build basic websites.

But building a website, and building a secure website, are two different things entirely. I doubt any of us would install doors on our businesses if we didn’t understand how to install locks. So why would you install a website if you don’t understand security?

We here at Maverick will implement a 14-point security check for you. To put your web security in our hands, is to hire the professionals that you need.

“Why Commercials Don’t Work Well Online for Local Businesses”

None of us like to be “sold” to! Especially with the fast-paced, “DVR age” we live in today; we only want to watch the things that interest us… whether it’s our favorite TV show, sporting event, or something that educates or informs us.

With this in mind, people definitely don’t want to watch commercials online! They are looking for content that is beneficial to them. A great content video will provide this, as well as allow the viewer to start seeing you as the “expert” in your industry because you are willing to share information with them whether they buy from you or not… and not just another salesman. That alone sets you apart, and will cause people to get to know, like and TRUST you!! No commercial, whether online or on TV, gives you that.

This week Verizon is set to announce that it will carry the iPhone. What does this mean to you as a local business? Well, first you are either reading this the day before the iPhone comes to Verizon or they have it. Either way it is time to pay attention.

You see the iPhone is a game changer in so many ways. The one that matters to you is with the way customers find you. Once the iPhone gets into the hands of Verizon customers, it will change the mobile landscape. More and more people will be using their mobile devices to find and interact with local businesses.

So, is your local directory stuff up to date and optimized for all those potential customers to find you? Are you keyed in on the places your business must show up to be rewarded with local mobile love? Seems silly, but if you are not in the right spots you will be missing out on potential customers.

So, where should you be??? Well a good place to start is to make sure your Google Places listing is up to date and optimized. There is a ton of stuff that goes into making this right. Messing this up WILL cost you customers.

There are about 30 other places you should have your business listed for maximum local results. Next, do you have pictures, videos, and do you have your customers leaving you ratings on your local places profile? Again this is a major must for local businesses.

The iPhone makes it so easy to search and find local businesses, making the Yellow Pages even more obsolete then it already was. If you are a local business that is still paying money to the Yellow Pages each month, it is time to WAKE UP!

We are now in a reputation and relationship economy, and more people getting an iPhone just is more proof of that. So to help your local business today, make sure you are ready to take advantage of the latest iPhone wave by having all your local directories optimized and up to date!

So as we start a new year and a new decade, we have seen a few changes happen in our country, our homes, our families, and how we do business. Some of these changes have been good and some have been, well hard to understand.

So here are just a few thoughts on how business has changed way too fast for some business owners to keep up with. Video Marketing, Internet Marketing, and Social Media Marketing: How do they work? And, more importantly, do they work??? Which one works best? Which one gets me the best bang for my $$?

I hear this almost every day from business owners that feel like they are drowning in the info highway of the internet. So, to be honest, all three work–and better then “old school media” and better than what most businesses are doing to get new clients. Now let me be clear. All three–web video marketing, internet marketing and social media marketing–together can help you virtually dominate your industry. (yes virtually dominate, if done right of course.)

Ok so let me break this down one by one. With video you can help people get to know you, your product, or service. With video you can get people to trust what you’re saying about your product or service, and with a well thought out video (not commercial), you can get people to like you. Yes all that with just one web video.

So internet marketing is where you put your awesome video so more people can get to know, like and trust you. There are over 100 great places to put your video to work for you. Here are the big names: Google, YouTube, Facebook, Bing, and Yahoo.

If your company has a website, which it must, DOES IT HAVE VIDEO? This is the first place you must start your internet marketing and video marketing efforts.

Last but not least social media marketing. Ok most people in Albuquerque have heard of Facebook right (500 million users, of which half use FB everyday)? Well how do you use it to get clients? Most business owners use the force feed, vomit, or one-way method on their FB page. So what is this? I get on my page and tell everyone to Buy my stuff! Buy my stuff! My stuff is the best! My stuff does this! My stuff does that!!!…. Now you get the picture… all one-way, no real interacting. It’s kinda like a TV commercial, right? All the commercial says is buy my stuff .

Social media marketing has to be treated like a two way street where both parties have a chance to interact, a relationship that takes work to become a good relationship. This takes more time and way more effort than a commercial or a print ad. So your best bet in all this is to know that there has been a shift and you need to find what will work best for you, and know it will change again and fast. Find a company that is using all three and make them your partner…

To your new and fast changing decade

Why Does a Small Business Need Video?

You may have been asking yourself, “Do I really need to have video online for my small business?”. The answer to that is a resounding YES!! Here are a few reasons why:

Statistics show that over 70% of internet users are watching online video, and that has been the major reason why YouTube has become the #2 Online Search Engine in the world, after Google, with over 1 billion visitors… 1 BILLION people watch videos on YouTube, from funny and weird to informative and educational.

People are hungry for content, and they want to find it in the most easy to access, understandable and obtainable way. Video offers all of those things! Let me ask you another question. Of the two numbers, 6 and 52, which would you prefer? Most of you will probably pick 52, so I’ll start there. 52 is the average number of seconds a user will stay on a website without video on it. 6 is the average number of MINUTES that a person will stay on a site that does have video. Now which number would you prefer?! These statistics are according to CISCO, a leading Technology Research and Statistics company.

Some of you are still probably thinking that “traditional media” such as newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, Billboards etc are where you should be pouring your hard earned money for your Marketing campaigns… Did you know that only 300,000 people still read the newspaper. Compare that to YouTube’s 1BILLION viewers, and it starts to become a no-brainer!

Online video is trackable and it allows people searching online the opportunity to get to know, like and trust you. It’s cost-effective too as video doesn’t cost near as much over time as “Traditional Marketing” does, and it stays around for a lot longer… not just for the month or few seconds you paid for! You can find all kinds of articles online supporting why having online video for your business is so crucial, and we’ll list a few for you here.

Again, should you be using video online for your business? My answer, and not just my opinion mind you; it’s proven fact, is not only YES… but you’ll be left behind the rest of the world if you don’t!

Ah, Facebook, a place where we can shoot the breeze with long-lost friends, update our statuses in real time, and revel in what it’s like to have hundreds–even thousands–of friends. But is that all there is to Facebook? Not even close. There’s a whole other world there, and it’s very important to small businesses.

Let’s look at the Super Bowl for a second. Companies spend millions on advertising during the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl commercials are as legendary as the games themselves. Why do this? Because companies and advertisers both know the Super Bowl draws in millions of viewers. To market during the Super Bowl is to market to a huge audience. It only makes sense, right? Well, wouldn’t the same apply to the 500 million or so Facebook users?

That’s right. Say it with me: 500 million users on Facebook. Now, that’s a market waiting to be tapped. Facebook, while an invention by young people seemingly aimed at young people, actually crosses generations and demographics. It’s not just a saying when people say things like, “Everyone’s on Facebook.” While it’s true not every individual on the planet has a Facebook account, almost every group of people does. Facebook blurs the lines between race, class, age, gender, etc. It’s open and embraced by everyone. So why not use it as a marketing tool?

According to Entrepreneur magazine, businesses who don’t utilize social media marketing will be dead in five years. Five years. So, yes, social media marketing is important, and Facebook is the conductor by which much of our social media is channeled.

Let’s look at some numbers: the average Facebook user is on for about an hour a day–and that rate is increasing. That something like 500 million man-hours a day that small business can learn to utilize for their own growth. Even if just a fraction of those 500 million people spend a fraction of their hour a day looking at your business’s fan page, it’s still more people than you were marketing to without a Facebook page.

We’ve got to move from tradition. It’s no longer radio jingles and print media. The landscape has morphed into Facebook fan pages, check ins, and, likes and unlikes. Why is that important, you ask? Well, for one thing, we are a reputation-based economy. And that’s not just a phrase of buzz words for 2011. We’ve always been a reputation-based economy. It’s why we had Wendy’s commercials with Dave Thomas. It’s why car dealers–and not actors–tell you to “come on down!” It’s why we have the Better Business Bureau and online consumer reports. We want to know who this business is before actually doing business with them.

Well, what better way to establish your presence and reputation with people than by being on a social network with half a billion users? To say Facebook is the past is a total misconception, and to say it’s the future is a guess at best. But does dominate the present. If you choose to harness and, eventually, wield the power of Facebook (and social media marketing in general), you too can dominate the present.

You must walk before you can run. This morning, my one-year-old boy decided that he was going to start walking. He crawled very fast, but obviously decided that he needed to do more to get to better places. I immediately thought of him running all over, and of the extra energy that we would use to “police” him. Then it occurred to me that he must walk before he can run.

Having an effective online marketing strategy for your local business is not really any different. I think that so many people feel that they cannot have success online because they do not have the BIG budget to work with. I don’t blame you for this thought process. After all, web designers want to charge you $5,000 or more for a website. Then you have to get people to see your $5,000 site, and some SEO firms will try and charge you tens of thousands just for that. Then there is Youtube, Facebook, Twitter—the list goes on and on. No wonder so many local businesses are reluctant to get started online.

“You must walk before you can run!”

Take a deep breath and relax. It’s possible to begin the steps to having a visible online presence without all the stuff mentioned above. Is the stuff above needed? Yes, over time it is. But, it’s not where you need to start on day one.

Before you begin to invest thousands of dollars into your online marketing, get with someone who can help you understand what it takes to start walking. Figure out how to INVEST that money into a long term, workable online strategy before you decide to start running.

With so many options available, make sure that you are leveraging your dollars to bring you leads and sales, so you can expand your strategy with your profits. This way, you are building on your successes and building a TRUE online strategy, and not just throwing money toward something.

Just like my little boy knows he must begin walking to get places in his life, you too must be online with your business to help it grow. However, remember that you must walk before you run! Get sound ADVICE from the right people, and you will be running in no time at all.

Take your first steps online. Get with someone who can, first, help educate you, and then help you transform your ideas into successes. We of course would be honored if it was us, but even if it is not, don’t delay. You must take the first steps online today, because if you never start walking, you will never be able to run.
